The Ford Explorer is Ford’s midsize SUV that debuted in 1990 as a 1991 model and became the best-selling SUV for 15 years with total sales of nearly 5.5 million during that time. The Explorer was redesigned for 2006 with more power, cleaner emissions and advanced safety technologies. The Explorer Sport Trac was added for 2001 with a pickup-bed in place of the traditional SUV cargo area.

The 2009 Ford Explorer adds standard Trailer Sway Control that works together with AdvanceTrac with RSC (Roll Stability Control) to add additional security when towing. An XLT sport package is offered with Charcoal Black cloth seats, white-faced instruments, all-weather floor mats, and black wheel lips, side steps and front fascia. Also new for 2009 is a voice-activated navigation system with Sirius Travel Link with access to up-to-the-minute information and entertainment content through the navigation system. Information includes current gas prices from an estimated 120,000 stations, traffic information for 78 markets, weather conditions, sports scores and movie listings
