The 458 Challenge boasts a host of upgrades over its road-legal sibling to make it race worthy when it hits the grid in Ferrari’s one-make race series from 2011. The Ferrari 458 Challenge will make world premiere at the 35th edition of the Bologna Motor Show in Italy, which runs for the public from December 4 to 12.

Ferrari is also displaying a variety of other racing models from the past and present at its Bologna Motor Show stand, including a 430 GTC owned by the AF Corse team Ferrari and an F1 model.
Ferrari’s engineers have made modifications to the gear ratios and calibration of its dual-clutch F1 gearbox to further improve torque at lower revs. While the Challenge keeps the 458 Italia’s direct injection 4.5-liter V8 with an output of 570 hp at 9,000 rpm intact.

The Ferrari 458 Challenge is equipped with the E-Diff electronic differential already employed on the road-going version, a first for Ferrari’s track-only cars. Another first for a Ferrari Challenge model is the adoption of the firm’s F1-Trac traction control system. The race-spec model also gets a specific suspension set-up with steel uniball joints, stiffer springs, single-rate alloy dampers and a ride height lowered by 50mm all round.
Stopping power is provided by the new generation Brembo CCM2 brakes integrated with the latest ABS system which debuted on the 599XX, Ferrari’s experimental laboratory car, while it rides on centre-nut 19-inch forged rims wrapped in larger dimension Pirelli slicks.
Result of combined is the improvement of the car’s lap time at Fiorano by two seconds over that of its predecessor, resulting in a new record of just 1’16.5”. According to the Italian company, the amount of lateral grip the new car generates is 1.6G. Read also about this car’s detail at previous post..

2011 ferrari f430

The car saves effectively on weight to excel in speed, and its curb weight is approximately 1,225 kg. In the cockpit, Ferrari have removed all excessive luxuries that might increase the weight of the car. There are no stereos, speakers or even carpets in the Ferrari F430 Challenge and even the standard seats have been replaced by seats that are exclusively designed for racing. Even the steering wheel of the car has been replaced by a racing edition of the wheel.

There are buttons available on the dash board to provide communication with the radio in the pit, and an interface option with the digital instrument display is also an availability. The car also features a full roll cage and harnesses for racing in the cockpit to provide better safety while driving at a fast speed. The stability system, as well as the traction control system has both been disengaged permanently from the Ferrari F430 Challenge. You can spot modifications that have been made to facilitate in racing in the car everywhere, and even the E differential of the car has been replaced by a mechanical version.

Even the suspension modules of the Ferrari F430 Challenge have been modified to facilitate racing. The engine of the car is the same one that was used in the Ferrari F430, which is the 90° 4.3 liter V8. Just like its counterpart, the Ferrari F430 Challenge produces the same output, which rests at 483 hp. However, the engine of the car has been modified to include Double Overhead Camshafts, and it contains 4 valves in every cylinder. Natural aspiration has been, and always was, used in the car.

Ferrari California Some Sharper Teeth

Anderson Germany Ferrari California front 3/4 view

The Ferrari California is, like any model to emerge from the Maranello plant since, say, the shiver-worthy 348, a brilliant car. Unfortunately, that doesn’t change the fact that the latest “starter Ferrari was practically born to be purchased by rodent-sized-canine-owning celebrities who neither know nor care about the car’s thousands of engineering man-hours or the storied marque’s extensive competition record both past and present. (“Fernando Alonso? He’s, like, an opera singer, right?”)

This pre-installed stigma is bad juju for types of true enthusiasts who would buy this car. You know, the folks who wake up at stupid o’clock in the morning to watch Formula 1 live on Speed and can appreciate technology like the direct-injected 4.3L V8 and available 7-speed double-clutch transmission, because the gearhead of lesser means who sees them cruising down the street will tend to assume the person behind the wheel thinks "Imola" is the name of a meat-borne pathogen and merely bought a California because it’s a convertible and it has a back seat on which to place the pet carrier of Aphrodite, their Mexican Hairless.

Anderson Germany Ferrari California rear 3/4 view

Mercifully, there is a way to show the world that, while you may be a Ferrari California owner, you are not a poseur. Just send your California and an undisclosed sum of currency to the Bavarian tuning firm Anderson Germany (no relation…we think). The heart of the company’s modifications lie underneath, where a reflashed ECU and a tri-mode stainless steel exhaust system (the latter featuring a system of valves that allow for a choice of three sound levels, presumably ranging from sleep-deprived-Dustbuster to Mel Gibson-at-an-African-American-rabbi-convention) raise output by 55 ponies for a total of 515hp. That is more like it, isn’t it?

But the envious peons on the street won’t notice those hidden upgrades since they’re, you know, hidden. That’s why Anderson Germany also adds larger wheels and tires (21-inchers in front, 22s in back), a suspension control module that allows the car to be lowered up to 1.3 inches at the push of a button, smoked taillight lenses, tinted windows (which probably won’t get the thumbs up from the average American DMV inspector) and a handsome body kit consisting of painted rocker panel extensions and an unpainted carbon fiber rear diffuser, rear lip spoiler, front air dam extension, hood scoop and side vent grilles. Buyers can also have the interior fitted with carbon fiber trim and other custom touches. In short, Anderson Germany has everything you need to make your Ferrari California stand out from the latte-sipping, paparazzi-fleeing herd. So much for your last excuse for not buying one.

2010 Hamann Sports Cars Ferrari California F149

World premiere at the 63rd Frankfurt Motor Show - the HAMANN tuning programme for the Ferrari California F149. HAMANN unveiled the 2010 HAMANN Ferrari California program at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show. The HAMANN Ferrari California is powered by a standard 4.3 liter V8 engine that develops 460 hp which 20% more than standard. The extra horses of the HAMANN Ferrari California comes from a re-programmed ECU and a new sport exhaust system.
2010 Hamann Sports Cars Ferrari California F149
The aerodynamics package of the HAMANN Ferrari California F149 includes a carbon fiber bonnet, a new front spoiler, new side skirts, a rear spoiler and a small rear wing. The rear of the HAMANN Ferrari California is completed with a new diffuser.
Refining super sports cars is more than just business for the company HAMANN Motorsport. Their passion for detail, for something special and unique is the main incentive for extraordinary modifications. The latest stroke of genius once again confirms this. The HAMANN interpretation of the Ferrari California F149 with its exclusive and extensive refining programme does not only make the hearts of real Ferrari fans beat faster.
Most of all, the car body kit proves that HAMANN does not only focus on changing the visual appearance. Apart from design elements such as a bonnet made of carbon fibre, specific modifications at the front, sides and back boost the aerodynamics. Thereby, the front spoiler reduces the lifting forces of the California which significantly improves the handling and agility. Moreover, the unobtrusive side skirt set calms the airflow between both axles.
And moreover, a back spoiler increases the contact pressure. Here, the HAMANN engineers agreed on a small wing profile which considerably enhances the car body design. As the combination with the perfectly integrated and three-part rear diffuser renders enough grip for the road. Mainly on country roads with many curves, the HAMANN aerodynamics kit unravels its power and generates pure driving pleasure.
The extra agility and handling gives room for more performance. Also here, HAMANN-Motorsport contributes its know-how. An adjustment for the motor management is in preparation and a sport exhaust system will also be especially engineered for this sports car. This combination will advance the performance of the serial 4.3 litre V8 engine with 460 hp by up 20 percent.
Another technical highlight in the offered tuning programme is the multi-part HAMANN aluminium wheel called EDITION RACE. The black varnished rim star and the titanium bolting of the high-gloss polished rim flange emphasise the racing character. As the wheel is produced in forged technology, it is extremely light.
This reduces the unsprung masses which noticeably improves both the acceleration and the braking response. The recommended wheel-tyre combination measures 9.0Jx21 inches with 245/30ZR21 tyres for the front and 12.5Jx21 rims with wheels measuring 345/25ZR21 are fitted at the back. The wheel-tyre combination is perfectly enhanced by the suspension which is used in order to lower the sports car.
Also in the interior, HAMANN has a lot to offer to its customers. In addition to the serially offered interior, HAMANN Motorsport offers an extensive programme, ranging from personalised floor mats to a perfectly finished complete leather interior.

Ferrari releases images of its Italian greyhound, the 458 Italia

Ferrari-458-italia-front-three-quarter-1Now that images of Ferrari's spanking new mid-engine V8 berlinetta -- the 458 Italia -- have hit the virtual wires, the problem with the outgoing F430 Modena becomes comparatively obvious: The F430 is thick-waisted, otiose, a slug, straining the seams of its red livery like an overfed Vatican cardinal. It didn’t seem so before – indeed, the sight of an F430 hit one’s brain-case like scarlet lightning and the sound of its flat-crank, 483-hp V8 could rouse long-dead relatives from their slumber. But now I see what a truck it was.

Here, here, is a proper Ferrari.

Ferrari-458-italia-rear-three-quarterThe 458 Italia – debuting in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show – is the slinkiest road-going Ferrari ever, with a fluid, flowing, barely-there bodywork that clings to the car’s chassis like a red silk scarf in an F5 tornado. Spectacularly low and wide, with a huge dynamic energy as the folds of the car come together at the rear-quarter panel (note the absence of air intakes over the rear wheel arches), the 458 Italia is a rolling clinic of Ferrari design cues the Enzo tail lights and general posture, the 612 Scaglietti contour line, the sharkish snout of a Dino. And all of it sketched with lighter-than-air graphite.

Ferrari-458-italia-sideThe lightness isn’t purely visual: the 458 Italia weighs in at 3,046 pounds, a feathery mass pitted against the car’s direct-injection 4.5-liter V8 (thus name 458), seven-speed clutchless manual transmission and Ferrari’s latest driving electro-dynamics, including systems-integrated versions of E-Diff and F-Trac, which help the car generate an astounding 32% more longitudinal acceleration out of corners. To unpack that a bit, it means you can get on the gas even earlier coming out of a corner and the car will instantly sort out each rear wheel’s max torque capacity. The factory says seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher helped with the fine tuning. Should be quite the roller-coaster.

The 458 gets it done in a straight line too: 3.4 seconds to 62 mph and a top speed of 204, with the backing of the 562 HP at 9,000 rpm (52 hp more than the F430) and 398 lb-ft of torque at 6,000 rpm. And the electronically maximized brakes aren’t bad, either: 62 to 0 in a mere 105 feet.

The official release, with dizzying factoids and technical detail, after the jump.

Ferrari 458 Italia

Ferrari 458 ItaliaThe design of the Italian Pininfarina Ferrari 458 provides further evidence of the complete break with the past that this new car goodbye. Ferrari 458 Italy has a shape, compact aerodynamic focusing on the notions of simplicity, efficiency and lightness that inspired the project. Like any other Ferrari, the style of the car was heavily influenced by the requirements of aerodynamic efficiency, as you can see on the support of 140 kg to 200 km / h generated by the new model. The front has an opening for the grille and side vents, or the bearing surfaces with sections designed to direct air to the radiator and cooling the underside new apartment. The nose also sports small wings to generate downforce and aero-elastic, as the speed increases, it deforms to reduce the input section of radiators and slide cutting.

Ferrari 458 ItaliaThe new 4499 cc V8 Ferrari is the first direct-injection engine for mid-rear mounted. Has a very low height of the piston compression typical of racing engines that have helped to achieve its compression ratio of 12.5:1. Featuring traditional flat plane crankshaft, the engine produces 570 hp at 9,000 rpm and with an extraordinary power of 127 hp / liter, establishes a new benchmark not only for the range Ferrari and the company's history, but also the segment. The maximum torque of 540 Nm at 6,000 rpm, over 80 percent of what is available from 3250 rpm. Specification is a peak torque of 120 Nm / liter. However, what is truly extraordinary is the amount of torque, while maintaining high levels of power at low revs.

Ferrari 458 ItaliaOf the 458 Ferrari Italy, Maranello has brought a highly distinctive car back to its 8 cylinders. The company now offers two models that share a common DNA of the race, both outstanding athletic and fun to drive in the Ferrari tradition, it is true, but two very different types of customers. While the Ferrari California has been created for owners who require a more versatile sport with a real advantage, Ferrari 458 Italy is designed for owners, whose priority is not to compromise on performance on the road with a Days ability occasionally, but that still requires a car that is used in day-to guide days, as all models of Ferrari.

2010 Ferrari Sports Cars 612 Scaglietti a Sporty Coupé

The 612 Scaglietti is the result of an avant-garde design that continues the great Ferrari 2+2 tradition. Styled by Pininfarina, the 612 Scaglietti is named in honour of Sergio Scaglietti, the Modenese stylist and coachbuilder responsible for bodying some of the most beautiful Ferraris Sports Cars of the 1950s and 60s.
2010 Ferrari Sports Cars 612 Scaglietti a Sporty Coupé
The 612 Scaglietti epitomises Ferrari's talent for innovation and design. This exhilaratingly nimble, beautifully balanced sporty front-engined rear-wheel drive berlinetta offers a cockpit capable of accommodating four occupants in unprecedented comfort. The 612 Scaglietti isn't just a 2+2 but a spacious two-door four-seater that's a pleasure to be aboard in any driving conditions.
While the Ferraris Sports Cars 612 Scaglietti has the heart of a sporty coupé, its luxurious dimensions and design are that of a surprisingly roomy Granturismo. Its deft Pininfarina styling is as innovative as its design, underscoring its dynamism and power. The result is an imposingly sculptural car with a long sleek bonnet, strong lines and signature scooped flanks borrowed from the famous Rossellini-Bergman 375 MM.
The 612 Scaglietti was the very first all-aluminium Ferrari 12-cylinder. It's no surprise therefore, that it is named in honour of Sergio Scaglietti, the Modenese coachbuilder who worked with Enzo Ferrari in the early years of his great adventure, masterfully sculpting some of the most famous track and road-going Ferraris ever from that very metal (which is just a third of the specific weight of steel). Both the 612 Scaglietti's chassis and bodywork are aluminium.
The 612 Scaglietti's innovative panoramic stratified glass roof extends right across the top of the cockpit from windscreen to rear window, giving all four occupants a drop-top driving sensation of spaciousness and airiness. There are three tint level settings to allow occupants adjust the amount of sunlight allowed into the car.
The 612 Scaglietti's braking system features CCM (carbon ceramic material) discs, making it highly responsive and efficient even in the most intense driving conditions. The 612 Scaglietti's brakes are also exceptionally resistant to fading and thus guarantee effective braking in high-stress driving situations. The use of CCM technology guarantees enhanced ride quality too. The 612 Scaglietti's wheels have been selected for optimal performance and weight reduction.
Ferrari's team of highly-experienced, passionate artisan cockpit trim experts ensure that every 612 Scaglietti leaves Maranello with an elegantly sophisticated and sporty cockpit honed to meet the tastes of its owner. This bespoke quality and exclusivity means that owners can choose from a range of dash panel inserts, seat trims and side panels.
The easy-to-reach main controls for the onboard infotainment system are also steering wheel-mounted. The dual zone climate control automatically adjusts cockpit temperature, humidity levels and ventilation. An 8-channel Surround Sound audio system was developed specifically for the cockpit so that the acoustics are on a par with the best Home Theatre system, in all driving conditions.
The 612 Scaglietti is powered by an imposing 5,748 cm³ 65° V12 that delivers 540 CV at 7,250 rpm, 98 CV more than the 456M's 5,474 cm³ unit. The engine has been worked upon on various levels to optimise performance and improve fluid dynamics. Specifically, it boasts more direct air intake tracts with two ducts from the radiator grille opening on the front bumper, new exhaust system geometries and volumes to reduce back-pressure, a boosted compression ratio (11.2:1), and inlet tracts and exhaust porting with improved fluid dynamic characteristics.
It is controlled by a Bosch Motronic ME7 ECU. Meticulous honing of the 612 Scaglietti's dynamic handling has resulted in prompt yet smooth responsiveness, making it easier to control in all kinds of conditions.
